Choosing a BeauT Bear means choosing a hand-made
one-of-a-kind bruin after own design. Not a single BeauT Bear is the same,
although you will probably see by their faces they all come from the same 'family'.
BeauT Bears are collectors' bears and not toys for young children.
History
The history of BeauT Bears is probably quite similar to the histories
of so many other teddy bear artists, with one difference:
at first I absolutely did not want to have anything to do with teddy bears.
Actually BeauT Bears thank their existence to the perseverance of one of my sisters
(who was convinced I was absolutely-going-to-enjoy-bearmaking,
and she happened to be so right) and the fact that one day, early 1997,
I could not resist a piece of plush fabric that crossed my path!
My sister provided me with the necessary things such as eyes and joints,
and soon after my first bear was born. At that time living in the city of Dordrecht
less than a 5 minutes walk from one of Holland's most renowned teddy bear shops,
speeded up my bear-making and designing skills. Ever since BeauT Bears
are made from quality mohair or alpaca.

EVA nominations
Meanwhile BeauT Bears have been travelling around. In the autumn of 1999,
Griselda and Olga Bearanova were nominated as finalists, respectively in the Bare Bear
and Dressed Bear category, for the prestigious EVAs (later on known as the Readers' Choice Awards) in Alexandra Palace
- London. By the end of the year 2000 their younger brother Björn was invited to cross
the Channel because that year he had been nominated as an EVA finalist.
In October 2001 Roddy was chosen as an EVA finalist in the Bare Bear Category,
followed by Queenie B in the year 2002.

Why are they called BeauT Bears?
To explain this, you need to know that BeauT is pronounced 'boat'.
Some people pronounce it as 'beauty' or 'beauté', which I like of course.
And to be honest I feel flattered too, for I always try to make my bears
as beautiful as I can. BeauT Bears, however, are called so because
they are all born aboard an over 100 years old sailing vessel,
a Dutch klipper barge, where I live together with my husband Jan and our cats
Indy and Lotte.
